7× Search Visibility for One of the World's Leading Advertising Photographers

The problem
Despite being at the absolute top of his craft, Jonathan’s website wasn’t matching his reputation in search. Art directors, creative agencies, and brands commissioning photography were searching for terms like ‘drinks photographer’, ‘still life photographer’, and ‘liquid photography’ — and jknowles.com wasn’t showing up. His portfolio spoke for itself once people found it. The challenge was making sure they found it in the first place.
What we did
We built a content and SEO strategy around the exact terms Jonathan’s ideal clients are searching. That meant developing topical authority across his core specialisms — drinks photography, liquid photography, still life, and beauty — and ensuring every page on jknowles.com was optimised for discoverability without compromising the visual experience that makes his portfolio so compelling.
The results
In six months, total impressions went from 56,100 to 393,000 — a 7× increase in search visibility. For a photographer, that number matters enormously: it means Jonathan’s work is now surfacing hundreds of thousands of times when the right people search. Total clicks grew from 1,260 to 5,670, a 4.5× increase in art directors, agencies, and brands landing directly on his portfolio.
Average position moved from 11.7 to 7.0 — the difference between sitting on page 2 and being solidly on page 1. That shift puts Jonathan in the consideration set for every relevant brief. The graph shows a clear upward trajectory in the second half of the period, which means this isn’t a spike — it’s compounding momentum that’s still building.
Why it matters
Jonathan’s career was built on the quality of his work and word-of-mouth reputation. SEO doesn’t replace that — it amplifies it. Now, when an art director in New York or a brand manager in London searches for a drinks photographer, Jonathan’s portfolio is right there. The work still sells itself. We just made sure it gets seen.
